Prepare for SHI 2013 Tournament in Kitchener, Ontario, Canada

Tournament - March 14-16, 2013

March 14-16, 2013, Kitchener will be hosting the 19th Annual Special Hockey International tournament. The annual SHI tournament brings together teams from across North America and England once a year for a major gathering. There are no elimination rounds, no one team is crowned champion. In our eyes they are all champions. Every team plays up to 4 games and every player on every team plays equally.

Special Hockey International

Special Hockey allows the developmentally challenged to achieve their own goals on their own schedule. There are no age groups. There are no tryouts. They don't even need to be able to skate. All they need is what they already have desire. They will learn how to skate, how to hold a stick, how to handle a puck, how to make a pass, how to take a shot, how to make a save. Some may learn by the end of their first season, others may take years. What they will all do immediately is participate at every practice and at every game. That's because they don't have to meet anyone else's expectations, only their own.

Media sponsor Rogers Radio Group welcomed volunteers from the SHI 2013 Tournament Host Committee in the Rogers Corporate Suite at a recent Kitchener Rangers game at The Aud. Special guests Kitchener Pirates player Adam and his mother Kaye enjoyed the great hospitality and awesome sight-lines.

The Good News story of the Rotary Community Service Day at the Special Hockey International 2013 Tournament was shared with the Rotary Club of Kitchener-Westmount membership at the Wednesday May 8 meeting.
